Invitation to the ILDS Scholarship Program

On behalf of the WCD2011 Organizing Committee, it is my pleasure to invite applications for the ILDS (International League of Dermatological Societies) Scholarship Program which will provide financial assistance to a number of dermatologists from developing countries and leading young investigators who wish to attend the 22nd World Congress of Dermatology, which will be held from May 24 to 29, 2011 in Seoul, Korea.

Our goal is to provide approximately 400 educational scholarships, 145 of which will go to dermatologists from developing countries (Program 1) and 205 to residents and fellows (Program 2). The remaining scholarships will be provided by third party organizations such as the American Association of Dermatology (AAD) and International Society of Dermatology (ISD). Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on recommendations from local ILDS member societies.

Applicants will be categorized into three regions: 1) Asia, 2) Europe and Oceania, 3) Central & South America and Africa. The amount awarded to scholarship recipients will be USD 1,000 in Asia, USD 1,500 in Europe & Oceania and USD 2,000 in Central America, South America and Africa, which will cover accommodation and some travel expenses. Registration fees will also be waived.

  • *Program 1: Dermatologists from Developing Countries; Number 0 scholarship, Amount USD 1,500
  • Program 2: Residents and Fellows; Number 2 scholarships, Amount USD 1,500

* Countries for Program 1 fall under the upper middle income category, according to classification by the World Bank list of economies in July 2009. Economies are divided among income groups according to their 2008 gross national income (GNI) per capita, calculated using the World Bank Atlas method.

Eligibility

Each applicant must be a member in good standing of his/her local ILDS society. In order to be considered, applications and paperwork must be received by the WCD2011 Congress Secretariat by August 31, 2010.

  • Age Limit: 40 years of age at the time of the WCD 2011 (May 24, 2011)
  • Applicants: Certified dermatologist (Program 1) or dermatologist in training: residents and fellows (Program 2)
  • English language comprehension is mandatory
  • Participation in at least one congress scientific activity such as a poster presentation and/or oral communication. Abstracts for oral/ poster presentations must be submitted to the Scientific Secretariat by October 31, 2010.
  • All applicants must submit appropriate verification of their educational status.

Application Requirements for Societies

  • Recommend scholarship recipients matching with the number shown in the scholarship details table.
  • Selected recipients must register for the WCD through the online registration system on the Congress website (www.wcd2011.org). Each application must accompany the registration number and ID in order to be processed.
  • Regional societies must then send application forms along with official transcripts or dermatologist certifications for each applicant no later than August 31, 2010 to the Congress Secretariat by e-mail.

*Note: No payment is necessary at the time of registration. Registration fees will be waived by the Congress Secretariat upon receipt of the scholarship application.

Once all applications have been received, further instruction will be sent to each scholarship recipient.
